This review is for the Buttermilk & Bourbon: New Orleans Recipes with a Modern FlairThis is a truly great cookbook. I could not find one dish in it that I did not want to try.Even has a shrimp section with a foreword from Bubba of Forrest Gump fame.Lots of super pictures, that made you want to eat the pages.One of the recipes is for Ranch Dressing that you can make without all the harmful ingredients of store bought hidden valley with all the MSG and other garbage.All step by step in easy to understand format and terms.I hope this author comes out with a sequel to this cookbook.
Amazon sent me this cookbook to review and I wish I could give this more than 5 stars!Every recipe looks delicious and I’m a picky eater. Tons of food and drink recipes!Easy to follow step-by-step directions for each meal. You’re meals will actually look like the pictures. Best part is the “adult†section in the back with spins on traditional drinks
This has some really good recipes and quite a few that I think can easily be tweaked to be vegetarian, and plenty that already contain no meat. I mean, smoked gouda cornbread? delish! There are recipes of every type, side dishes, main dishes and even adult beverages! Recommended.
Please take my rating with a grain of salt. Sometimes I'll select a cookbook based on curiosity and that's the case with "Buttermilk & Bourbon: New Orleans Recipes with a Modern Flair" by Jason Santos. The pictures are great and the instructions are clear and nicely laid out. It definitely is a cookbook of regional food with some twists (ex: jalapeno syrup).That said, most of the recipes are out of my range. The ingredients are not readily available where I live (ex: heirloom tomatoes are hard to find in my area) or it just seems like the recipes need a lot of time to prepare. As I've gone through the recipes, I think there is just one recipe that I could even attempt with items in my pantry at the present moment. That would be Southern Style Potato Salad although I don't have red wine vinegar and I'd have find a substitute for red bliss potatoes.As such, I think the cookbook is for a specific audience who has the time and access to try these recipes. It definitely is for a household who knows their way around the kitchen a lot more than I. So for myself, this cookbook is about a 3-star but that is in the sense that it doesn't quite fit for me.
I’ve been waiting for months for this book and it finally is here and did not disappoint at all. Unlike most cookbooks, this one has so many recipes that a home chef would actually sit down to make. This book is extremely appealing to the reader.
Big Flavor. Big Personality. Unforgettable Southern Cuisine...says it all. Had the pleasure of experiencing some of these dishes in his restaurant so when the cook book went on preorder I had to find out how to make the fried chicken and biscuits.
