Deadpool Classic 2 starts with issue #2. In these early issues there were several overarching storylines that would last for several years. One was Pool’s first nemesis T-Ray. T-Ray wanted to destroy Pool and take control of the Hellhouse where mercs hung and got jobs in Chicago. Second, there was Wayde Wilson’s love life. He was hung up on Teresa Rourke, aka Siryn on X-Force, but he would soon find a new obsession the crazed Typhoid Mary. Third, the strange Landau, Luckman & Lake company and its operative Zoe Culloden were attempting to change Wilson’s way from being a cold blooded assassin to a hero for a mysterious plan of theirs. The height of this collection is a joint Deadpool-Daredevil issue with great artwork and story where Typhoid Mary wants to get revenge on DD, but Deadpool turns it into a therapy session. After that is another interesting comic where Mary attempts to return the favor and show Wilson he’s not who he thinks he’s turning into.Overall, top notch stories, a notch above the usual Deadpool banter and silliness.

I feel that Deadpool has gained a reputation as a non-serious character in the comics world. Sure, he's great for a laugh, but he's more about telling jokes than being a real person in his own right. Anyone who believes something like that should really take a look at this series. In this collection, Deadpool meets back up with Siren of the X-Force, the woman who truly believes that there is good man under all of Deadpool's scars. She tries to steer him back onto the path of a hero, and Deadpool tries to go along with it. It's honestly quite interesting seeing Deadpool try and copy some of the good deeds of other heroes, with the Joe Kelly twist. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.

In the second installment of Joe Kelly's wonderful Deadpool run, the mouthy merc faces off against the expert fighter Taskmaster and loses a finger in the process! In an effort to get his regenerative properties back to full function, he has to take a blood sample from the incredible Hulk and that's not something that can be done easily! Wade also runs into a man from his dark past and only Siryn of the X-Force (and love interest of Deadpool) can stop him from mutilating the man responsible for making Wade the horrendous nightmare he is today! Deadpool also has a tangle with Vamp and then runs into Typhoid Mary and tries to help her mental state! Coinciding with the Deadpool/Daredevil '97 Annual, Deadpool brings Mary and Daredevil together to reconcile past incidents. However, Mary's maniacal ways prove to be too much for even Deadpool to handle and he must stop the monster he unleashed! Also, in the #-1 issue, Deadpool's origins and his first love interest are revealed! This trade paperback contains issues #2-8 as well as Deadpool/Daredevil 1997 Annual and the #-1 issue placed between issues 5 and 6. The stories here are well done and seeing Tasky in a newly-colored costume was nice even if it was only for one issue. The issues all line up pretty well and make one big story although T-Ray threatens to kill Deadpool on several occasions and never really does anything (except light Wade's head on fire.) The Typhoid Mary arc that crossed with the annual issue was really well done and showed a "heroic" side to Deadpool in his quest to save someone he saw as savable. Of course Weasel and Blind Al appear frequently and, through almost every issue, we get to hear classic lines like "Uh-oh! Sentimental scene alert! Launch a preemptive wedgie!" and "Hairy Zeus on a Traffic Light!" McGuinness and the gang do a good job of drawing Deadpool but some of their characters look a bit off; most notably Blind Al and Patch look very..."off." Deadpool, sans the mask, also looks like he could be the son of the Thing. They didn't quite get the whole "disfigured" look down yet. Otherwise, the guest appearances worked well and the writing by Joe Kelly was great. The Hulk fight was a bit of a letdown and Taskmaster should have been in these issues more but the Typhoid Mary arc was the real highlight. Chang's work on the annual issue looked very well (better, at times, than McGuinness's work in the ongoing series) and Lopresti's penciling did well for the -1 issue but it was nothing special. Overall, it was a good read but I hope it gets better from here.

Let me first state, I don't like Deadpool. I think the character is extremely one dimensional, crass and shock for shock's sake. Deadpool is essentially the Quentin Tarantino of comics. With that being said, the first ongoing was a lot of fun. It was kinda funny, but the big draw for me was Ed McGuinness' artwork. It's why I bought this collection and had to buy the first collection, even though all I wanted was the first issue. But Marvel, being Marvel put the first two mini-series and issue one in the first issue, forcing people who want that one single issue, to spend a lot of money just to get it.

I confess I really did not know much about Deadpool before previews for the Ryan Reynolds movie. That movie… That movie! That movie had me completely hooked on the character of Deadpool. I had to have more. I had heard that Ryan Reynolds was born to play that role, but far too often Hollywood changes everything about the beloved characters of novels, graphic or otherwise. I needed to know where Deadpool came from. To know if there was more of this character out there that I was missing. And was there ever! This Collection includes a fascinating encounter with the Incredible Hulk and the introduction of Deadpool is the one on the side, typhoid Mary. Deadpool is just the perfect character to follow. Where have you been all my life, Deadpool?

Deadpool is back with more adventures for the whole family! This volume was pretty good. It blends humor with drama very well while also being action packed and, unlike the first three issues in the first volume, I was able to keep track with what was going on. The stories were great with a good crossover with Daredevil. Definitely a great improvement over Rob Liefeld's work.
